Clinical Academic Echo Position, Vancouver, BC, Canada

The Division of Cardiology invites applications from outstanding cardiologists with advanced Echocardiography (level III) training wishing to pursue an academically focused career. This position is primarily based at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) in conjunction with a potential clinical role at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), both of which are University of British Columbia (UBC)-affiliated teaching hospitals. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue an academically focused career based on a strong publication and research track record, signalling their ability to obtain peer-reviewed grant funding within the early phase of their career.

Unexpected 1-year Echo Fellowship at Vancouver General Hosptial

We have an unexpected opening for a 1-year echocardiography fellowship at Vancouver General Hospital as one of our echo fellows had to leave abruptly for personal reasons. The training can start immediately for the qualified and successful candidate, as soon as the requirements from UBC and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC are fulfilled. The accepted candidate will benefit from the exposure to a large volume of echo studies (>24,000 annually) and comprehensive training covering all aspects of echocardiography (transthoracic, transesophageal, stress, contrast studies, pericardiocentesis, as well as structural interventional echo studies – LAA and PFO/ASD closures, mitral and tricuspid clipping procedures). The successful candidate will achieve Level III certification after the completion of echo training. Our echo fellowship program has also recently received Royal College AFC status. Our echo fellows are expected to participate in echo-related research, and will have exposure to AI research in our VGH-UBC Artificial Intelligence Echo Core Lab.

I would be grateful if you could encourage any of your trainees or colleagues who are interested in pursuing a 1-year echo training to email me directly (michael.tsang@ubc.ca).
Thank you for your attention.
