A hands-on opportunity for Canadian clinicians to teach, learn, and help build cardiac care capacity in Malawi. Six bursaries of $6,000 CAD each support a 14-day Global Medical Outreach between March–November 2025. Learn more about MTIMA at www.mtima.org.
The CSE × MTIMA Global Medical Outreach Bursary helps Canadian healthcare professionals share skills, support local teams, and learn in a resource-limited setting. Successful applicants join MTIMA’s ongoing cardiology education work in Malawi, partnering with local clinicians to deliver teaching, bedside scanning, and case-based learning focused on echocardiography and cardiovascular care.
This is a teaching-forward experience. You’ll help run short sessions, mentor at the bedside, and support basic service delivery where appropriate. In return, you’ll gain experience adapting guidelines to real-world constraints, collaborating across cultures, and building practical, sustainable solutions.
Each bursary provides $6,000 CAD to offset major costs (e.g., airfare, accommodation, in-country transport). Outreach trips run ~14 days within March–November 2025. MTIMA provides on-the-ground coordination, local partners, and a clear plan for educational activities.
Ideal candidates are committed to patient-centred care, passionate about teaching, and open to learning. We welcome applications from cardiologists, fellows, residents, sonographers, nurses, physician assistants/nurse practitioners, and allied professionals involved in cardiovascular care. Selection emphasizes readiness to teach, teamwork, and the intent to share learnings with the Canadian community afterward.
If you’re excited by service, education, and practical impact—this program is for you.

Funding note: The bursary helps offset major costs (e.g., flights, accommodation, local transport). Final coverage and reimbursements follow CSE/MTIMA guidelines shared upon selection.
