Dr. John Jue

This award recognizes Canadian cardiologists who have made significant contributions to echocardiography in terms of leadership, teaching or research.

Dr. John Jue is a Clinical Associate Professor in the department of cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He has also served as Director of Cardiac Ultrasound and Director of Non-invasive Cardiology at Vancouver General Hospital.

He received his B.S.c and M.D from UBC Dr. Jue did his fellowship in internal medicine at the University of Toronto, and his fellowship in cardiology at UBC. He was also a research fellow at the University of California San Francisco.

Academically, his focus has been echocardiography and bedside teaching in the Cardiac Care Unit. Since 1992, he has been involved in the echo lab, training every cardiology fellow. In addition, radiology residents rotate in and he has trained a number of community radiologists and physicians. On a less formal basis, Dr. Jue has educational sessions with the rest of the cardiac anaesthetists.

His training includes not only pathophysiology of the underlying cardiovascular disease, but understanding the physics and imaging planes of ultrasound, technical skills required in imaging transthoracic echoes, transesophageal echo and stress echo.

Dr. Jue has served as a Board Member of the Canadian Society of Echocardiography, and a Governor for the B.C. chapter of the American College of Cardiology, He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association and the American Society of Echocardiography.
