The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Division of Cardiology of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit an academic cardiologist in the area of Echocardiography. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto as a Clinician Teacher at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The successful applicant will spend time at SHS and UHN. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2023, or as mutually agreed upon.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated academic potential in the field of echocardiography – educationally and/or through research. They will have completed a level 3 fellowship in echocardiography – with skill acquisition in advanced echocardiography including contrast, stress, strain, transesophageal and 3-D imaging. The clinical position involves the interpretation of both inpatient and outpatient transthoracic and stress imaging (treadmill, bike and pharmacologic); as well as the performance of transesophageal echocardiography. The laboratory also provides educational rotations for the cardiology residents at the University of Toronto as well as a level 3 echocardiography fellowship.
The successful candidate will report to the Division Director of Cardiology at UHN/SHS. Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The primary language of work will be English. Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed, (estimated based on fee for service billing) but will be in the usual range for an experienced academic Cardiologist in the Province of Ontario, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income from Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine may be available. Health benefit options and plans are supplied per institutional policy. In addition, the candidate may be reimbursed partial start-up costs for office expenses.

Advanced Structural Imaging Fellowship: Echo/CT/MRI (Posted – March 4, 2022)
Site: St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, Canada
Duration: 2 years
This is a 2-year fellowship which will focus on advanced echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI in the assessment of cardiac disease, with a particular focus on transcatheter structural procedures. The echocardiography component will have a strong focus on interventional echo including preprocedural assessment, intraprocedural echo guidance of structural procedures and post-procedural assessment following the transcatheter intervention. Extensive cardiac CT and MRI experience will also be a strong component of this fellowship. St Paul’s Hospital is a large tertiary hospital where a number of transcatheter heart procedures are performed routinely including TAVR, MitraClip, TriClip and novel transcatheter valve interventions (Edwards M3, Evoque). Other procedures routinely performed at our centre include paravalvular leak closures, ASD closures, VSD closures and a number of other adult procedures. Clinical responsibilities during the fellowship will involve engagement in multidisciplinary transcatheter heart rounds and the structural heart clinic. The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in research and will be expected to publish at least one original work as well as contribute to other research during the two-year fellowship.
