CSE SPOTLIGHT SESSION: FUTURE OF ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY IN A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD

11:55 AM – 12:50 PM EDT

The CSE is offering a Spotlight Session focusing on the future of echocardiography. The practice of echocardiography has come a long way, starting from A-mode and M-mode echocardiography in the 1950s all the way to present date, with 3D echocardiography, strain imaging, contrast echocardiography and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Along the way, applications and protocols have expanded, training guidelines have been developed and standards have been set for acquisition and reporting of studies, supported by society guided appropriate use criteria. Advanced technology is continuously being developed with new applications based on changing clinical practice, such as structural heart disease interventions. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world and has changed how we practice medicine and echocardiography. The uncertainty we experienced during this unprecedented time has prompted the CSE to ponder the future state of the practice of echocardiography.
